Hello everyone!

About a month ago I made my first (hopefully not last!) purchase with LSK, a pair of M4 kits and a Digitech AA-0470 amp (on special at the time). I decided to do the two in hammertone green with chamferred edges.

I'll just jump straight into the photos, this was my first speaker kit, so I'd only be kidding myself if I thought there was any amount of planning involved. :)

The first box put together and coated on the interior with a bitumen based road dampening paint. (About $10/tin)

Sanded and with all edges chamferred. :)

I couldn't get enough of the corners, I was almost prepared to leave them bare. Note: Next time I expect I will be using bog to fill in the gaps.

No photos of the primer process I'm afraid. The painting was going surprisingly well at first, but I got a bit too keen and started laying down really thick coats without allowing sufficient time for drying, so there are some runs on particular sides that have been covered up not too well

Side by side. :)

You can see the texture of the hammertone finish reasonably well in this shot.

And here they are in my, err... listening environment. Digitech AA-0470 amp on the desk. A turntable is on the way soon. Otherwise I just use the rear surround out on the AV-710 soundcard (has a Wolfson surface-mount DAC on the rear channels) in my PC straight to the Digitech amp.

And that's it. :) Have to say I'm extremely satisfied with everything, constructing them was very simple (Note: gave myself blisters screwing the drivers/terminals in... electric screwdriver might be advised next time). I think the most satisfying moment was probably first hooking them up and actually hearing sound come out and not the drivers popping. Although, they seem to have replaced my AD400s as default listening gear!

I'm not sure where I'll go with it from here, as already mentioned, a turntable is next. Another two M4s is probably the obvious choice, but at the moment two either side of my monitor is pretty damn convenient. Thanks for reading, I hope I didn't include too many photos (let me know if the resolution is too high on them for convenience). :D

Looks pretty good mate, good work with it, I myself have just (finally) finished my first pair of M4's and am listening to them now, its interesting listening to them straight after unplugging from my TL6's :) surprisingly good sound for the size of the package. (now I just have to find the cable from my camera to my PC) its good looking at the completely finished M4's side by side with my completely raw MDF TL6's and dream of what they will look like soon.

Anyway, I'm sure with some more practice you will work out the kinks like running primer etc. (just remember you can always strip em down and redo it if it pisses you off too much haha.)

I don't know what all you guys are talking about with blisters from the M4 screws though... I just took all the screws out and put them back in again and its pretty easy?

have a good one mate.

Nice job. Like the texture and the stone/metallic look.

May I suggest you spin the tweeters so that the the fins are horizontal. Looks better IMO.

Well done.

I've got teh same monitor as you!

Nice one on the speakers too - the allure of some cheap but good sounding speakers is hard to go by. Now i just need to find more cashâ™ !
