Gday guys, I have a deluxe package from LSK, and as part of the deal they had a while back they gave out 2 free m4's with any package bought, so I thought I would practice my skillz on them first, before progressing to my other more expensive speakers.

The finish is real Jarrah veneer, and yes, it was very fking hard to do, and consumed quite a lot of time.

I will do a full write up and FAQ later, but for now here are pics of the compeleted M4's.

Nicely done. What sort of veneer did you use? I'm curious how you got the rounded edges. Obviously you haven't used just a thin veneer like the sort you get from Bunnings et al.

cheers david,

and mimo,

the veneer I used I got from a guy down in melbourne who specializes in veneering and wood supplies. got in contact with him through the woodworking.com.au forums. its fairly thin, I would estimate it at around 1mm thick, however the way I have applied the veneer (its not paper backed) is with contact cement one piece at a time, and when the piece is dry ( I usually give it half an hour to be sure) I use files to very gently break the veneer, ie laying it flat and pushing down on the top of the veneer with the file, to snap it and therefore I have found that the wood grains compress on the corners, making it a little thicker there. Keep in mind also that I have used almost no power tools at all in the entire process, everything has been done by hand (except using my dremel to cut the wood to size.) so a lot of gentle sanding on the edges yielded the result of a nice curve.

hey guys, just an update :)

have now completed the 3 D4's and the C6 in the same finish as the M4's. The sub is on its second coat of oil, just need to get the TL6's done now!

album is here: http://s67.photobucket.com/albums/h301/insanedaniel/Speakers/

and a few choice shots here :)

ignore the mess and cramped conditions in this photo, it is VERY temporary, for a week or so till I get my entertainment unit and set up the whole HT.

the sheets were about 3m X 2m from memory (approximately) and I used 2 of them with a little left over.

the cost was around $160 a sheet from memory. I figured compared to the cost of the speakers it wasn't much :)

cheers for the compliments, trying to do the towers at the moment haha.
