Hi Everyone,
About a month ago I bought a set of M4's, my hope was if I could do a decent enough job on these I'll use them in the dining area and tackle a set of M5's for the lounge, the reviews on the speakers sounded great and I was keen to give it a go. Without going into too much detail (plenty of people more skilled than me have done good write-ups already!) here's how it went:
The construction phase was excellent, really easy to put the kits together, even an office worker like me could do it.
Next despite some nervousnes I decided that rounded edges were the way to go and bought a 6.3mm rounding bit for my $40 router I'd bought a few years back. Let me say this was surprisingly easy also, provided you've got a good work area and a reasonably steady hand anyone could do this easily, its not something to be afraid of like I was at first....
Finally the painting...having never really painted anything before I wasn't sure what to expect and was hoping to achieve a perfect finish which seemed impossible the further along I went. Undercoating/sealing (with a brush) looked aweful even after sanding and even top coat which came out super smooth after sanding looked average under light up close. Finally I got frustrated and tried clear coat and this was a revalation, this stuf really brings it all together and changes the look/masks a fair amount of imperfection in the other coats.
So after weeks of painting frustration, I am pretty happy with the result, the finish isn't perfect but looks pretty good unless you get close and really go over them and more importantly they sound fantastic, better than the cheapy floor standers I currently have in the lounge room. Will need a month or two before I tackle another set but looking forward to building some M5's next.
Oh yeah, here's the photos :d/
